Description
View of construction on the Pennsylvania Railroad track in front of the tunnel at Gallitzin, Pa. Shows three men laborers, bent over, and laying down new wooden railroad ties on tracks leading to a tunnel through the mountainside. The figures are slightly blurred. In the right, a train car carrying a load of railroad ties rests near several large stacks of wood alongside the tracks. Adjacent to the stacks, beside the tracks, and on a hill in the background, several buildings and townscape is visible. The Gallitzin Tunnels are a set of three adjacent tunnels through the Allegheny Mountains completed in 1854, 1855, and 1902 by the Pennsylvania Railroad in Gallitzin, Pa.
