Description
View of the Kanawha River at Hawks Nest or Marshalls Pillar near Ansted, West Virginia. In the right foreground, shows three men fishing on a large rock. The large Kanawha River flows towards the viewer. Trees grow along the shorelines and on the cliffs that rise in the background. The area was called Marshalls Pillar after Chief Justice John Marshall, who visited. By the Civil War, the area was named Hawks Nest. It was established as a State Park in 1935.
