Description
Aboard a ship, a partially clothed slave uses a dagger to cut through the chains and shackles that bind him. With one arm raised above his head, he looks toward heaven in an offeratory manner. Behind him, two white men are seen at work. A quill, an ink-well, an overturned barrel, a British flag, and other items are visible in the background.
