Glass negative showing Anne Emlen, Marriott Canby Morris, his sister Elizabeth Canby Morris, and Shober Kimber (Haverford College class of 1886) posing in front the carved porch railing at the Morris family home Avocado. The women and Kimber sit on the ground. The women hold tennis racquets and Kimber holds a ball. Marriott Morris stands to the left, leaning against the porch railing. The women wear dark dresses. The men wear suits with white shirts. Emlen and Marriott Morris wear hats. Elliston Perot Morris bought property in Sea Girt, N.J. in 1875, where he built the summer home Avocado after designs by Quaker architect Hibberd Yarnall. Morris left Avocado, named after a Perot family estate in Bermuda, to his daughter Elizabeth Canby Morris in his will. It was sold in 1947 after her death. By 1958 the house had been demolished.
