Photographer's manuscript note on verso: John's business is Second Hand Furnishings, his hobbies are matrimony and Politics. Having been married 3 times, marriage has pulled upon him and politics now makes a tremendous appeal to his imagination as a patriot and citizen. He has run for president of the U.S., U.S. senator, U.S. congressman, mayor, councilman, magistrate and assessor of Phila. He has the distinction of never having been elected for any office for which he ran. (see biographical leaflet).
