Description Depicts the dilapidated chapel at Olive Cemetery on Girard Avenue between Merion and Belmont Avenues in Philadelphia. In the right, African American children sit in and stand near the chapel's doorway. Four young children sit within the covered doorway and look at the viewer. A small boy stands beside the door and faces the viewer. Olive Cemetery, established in February 1849, was one of the city's largest African American administered business enterprises which by the late 19th century had failed due to mismanagement.
