Bust-length portrait of the young Pennsylvania legislator, best known as the author of the "Wilmot Proviso," the unpassed
1846 bill which would have prohibited the extension of slavery into the annexed territory of Mexico. Wilmot, attired in a
white collared shirt, a black bowtie, and a black jacket, faces slightly left.
