Contains an anachronistic scene including a caricaturized depiction of Andrew Jackson and his militia during the War of 1812. Depicts the Major General triumphantly drilling a hole into a cask of rum with an Enterprise auger. Casks surround him and his troop cheers in the background near an American flag. Stereograph, possibly published in London, depicting a scene satirizing race relations in America. Shows the dandy standing and with one foot on the boy's shoe shine box in front of a back drop depicted as a wall adorned with broadsides referencing abolition, slavery, and emancipation. By the 1890s, he started his avocation of photography and worked as an editor at the Public Ledger. Stirling was also active in the Photo-Secession Movement and a member of several other clubs in addition to the "jaunters," including the Photographic Society of Philadelphia, the Pen and Pencil Club, and Manufacturer's Club. He was married to Anne J. Biddle, who also practiced photography. The couple had one son, Charles Biddle, who died in infancy.
