The Second Regiment of the Rhode Island Cavalry was organized in Nov. 1862 and ordered to duty in Louisiana; it was consolidated to a battalion of four companies in Aug. 1863, and transferred to 1st Louisiana Cavalry; it was transferred again in Jan. 1864 to the 3rd Rhode Island Cavalry.
