Description |
Full-length, forward-facing, group portrait of seven Ainu men. Shows a row of four men sitting cross-legged on the floor with
a row of three men sitting in chairs. The barefooted men have long, white and gray hair and beards and are attired in patterned
robes. A woven mat hangs behind them. The Ainu are an indigenous people from the northern region of the Japanese archipelago,
particularly Hokkaido. The Ainu culture is distinctive, with a language that is unrelated to Japanese.
