Description
Photographic reproduction of a caricature satirizing the forced conscription of the poor and immigrant classes unable to pay for substitutes during the Civil War. Shows Abraham Lincoln, attired in a smock adorned with stars, feeding "Conscription" medicine from a bowl to a scrawny Irishman who has his mouth wide open. An advertisement for "Dr. Lincoln's Ready Relief Pills" adorns the wall behind them.
