Description
View showing Reservoir Hill from the basin at the Fairmount Water Works. Includes the observatory tower distribution arch, built in 1860 and the Italianate standpipe, built in 1852 after the designs of Frederick Graff, Jr. The waterworks, originally constructed between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff, were altered and expanded after the designs of Philadelphia engineers, Henry P.M. Birkinbine and Frederick Graff, Jr., until 1872.

Manuscript note in ink on mount: Tower - Fairmount Park.
Photographer's imprint printed on mount and on verso. Imprint on verso contains initials "CPC" in decorative border surmounted by "1776. Philadelphia. 1876."
White curved mount with rounded corners.
The World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exhibition was held in New Orleans from 1884-1885.
