View of the marble statue designed by Joseph Bailly erected in front of the State House by the "Washington Monument Association
of the First School District of Pennsylvania July 4, 1869." The base of the statue is adorned in patriotic bunting. In the
background, shields depicting state seals hang from windows on the upper stories of the state house below flags and shields.
Original statue removed to City Hall in 1908 and bronze cast erected in its place.
