View looking across the Wire Suspension Bridge from the east side of the Schuylkill River. View also shows barges docked under
the bridge and businesses, including factories and the Crittenden Tavern, lining the west bank in the background. The bridge,
the first suspension bridge in the United States, was built from 1841-1842 after the designs of engineer Charles Ellet, Jr.
It was removed in 1874.
