Description
Billhead containing a cameo stamp depicting "French & Richards' New Wholesale Drug, Paint & Glass Warehouse, N.W. Cor. of 10th & Market St., Philada." Shows the exterior of the four-story building, including a tower. Crates and barrels line the side of the store. Also shows the adjacent hardware store. Established in 1844 by Clayton French, William Campbell, and William H. Richards, the firm was renamed French, Richards & Co. in 1855. The business operated from Market and Tenth streets 1844-1890. French, Richards & Co. merged with the Smith & Kline Company (later GlaxoSmithKline) in 1891.

Completed in manuscript to Mr. [blank] on August 23, 1854 for "50 lbs White lead" @ 9 1/2: $4.75.
List of products for which French & Richards are "Agents For"; "Manufacturers of"; Importers of"; and Wholesale Dealers in" printed on recto. Products include American Zinc Paints, Putty, Rough Plate Glass Tiles; and Paper Maker's Clay, Satin, White.
