Three-quarter length portrait of a bearded Black man attired in a white collared shirt, a bowtie, a sack coat, and light-colored pants. He sits on a wooden chair facing slightly left with his right hand tucked into his coat.

Schreiber & Son(s), a Philadelphia partnership of George Schreiber, and his several sons, specialists in portraiture and animal portraiture, were in business from 1857 until 1900, operating at 818 Arch Street from 1867 until 1879.
