1 photograph : albumen mounted on cardboard ; image 29 x 40 cm (11 x 15.5 in.) ; mount 41 x 51 cm (16 x 20 in.) irregular.
Description
Class portrait, including African American students, posed before the school at 17th and Spring Garden streets. The students sit on the front steps of the school and stand along the sides and at the top. Some hold and display personal mementoes. Established in 1848, the high school, located at Spring Garden from 1876 to 1958, was the first municipally funded secondary school for girls in the United States. The school relocated to 1400 West Olney Street in 1958.
