Description |
Bust-length portrait of the Massachusetts congressman and abolitionist attired in a white collared shirt, plaid waistcoat,
black bowtie and jacket. Burlingame was challenged to a duel by Southern Senator Preston Brooks after denouncing Brook's physical
attack of antislavery senator, Charles Sumner, in 1856.
