Description
View of the steamboat travelling down a river. Includes African Americans dancing on deck near a crewman carrying logs; passengers walking on the roof of the boat; and dwellings lining the riverbank. The steamer ran in the St. Louis - New Orleans trade; served in the Mexican American War; and was referenced in the Mark Twain novel "Tom Sawyer." Ship was destroyed by fire 1851.
