Description
Aerial views of the Atlantic Refining Company (later Atlantic Richfield Co. or ARCO) petroleum refinery plant along the Schuylkill River in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Philadelphia. The company was founded as the Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company in 1866 as a storage facility but quickly expanded operations to include refining as the possible uses of petroleum were discovered. It was purchased by John D. Rockefeller in 1874 and became part of the Standard Oil Trust and became Atlantic Refining Company after the Trust was dissolved in 1911. The facility is shown from several angles and altitudes and includes views of the refining equipment and storage drums as well as boats and ships docked on the river.
