Description
Membership certificate containing patriotic, state, and National Guard iconography. Includes the Pennsylvania coat of arms bordered by American flags; two National Guard members in uniform with one holding a rifle and the other a sword; and the" N.G." insignia surrounded by a pyramid of cannon balls, and cannons, drum, flags, and wagon wheels over the banner with the motto "Non Sibi Sed Patria," i.e. "Not Self but Country." Also shows an American eagle perched on top of the seal. The Pennsylvania Militia was legally renamed the National Guard of Pennsylvania in 1870.
