Description
Book illustration containing two views of historical Philadelphia landmarks. Upper view shows the bridge constructed in the late 17th century known as the arch over Mulberry (i.e., Arch) Street to provide access between elevated sections of Front Street near the house and shop of shipbuilder Robert Turner at the Delaware River. Bridge razed circa 1721. View includes two buildings, probably the Turner dwelling; a horse-drawn cart traveling under the bridge; pedestrians; and ships on the river. Lower view shows the exterior of the meeting house built 1685 on Front Street above Arch Street. Shows a group of Quakers proceeding to the meeting house. Building razed in 1789.
