Notes Contains frontispiece titled "Oakland, Female Institute." of an exterior view of the institute printed by "P.S. Duval Steam Lith. Press" and with the artist's credit line "From nature and on stone by W.E. Hitckcock [i.e. Hitchcock]." Students stroll on the lawn. A passenger train of the Philadelphia, Germantown, and Norrristown (later Philadelphia & Reading) Railroad passes in the foreground and a boat is moored on the river bank. The institute was established in 1845. This view issued shortly before the building underwent major renovation and enlargement 1852-1855.
