Description
Series of views, possibly issued as loose souvenir prints, of prominent buildings at the Centennial Exhibition of 1876. Buildings include the Art Gallery; Main Building; Horticultural Hall; Machinery Hall; Agricultural Hall; U.S. Government Building; Women's Pavilion; and Judge's Hall. Views include heavy pedestrian traffic as well as visitors traveling the grounds by carriage. The Centennial celebrated the centennial of the United States through an international exhibition of industry, agriculture, and art.

Variants of plates issued as Centennial Portfolio. 1st Series. Eight Views of Centennial Buildings ([Philadelphia]: Published by Thos. Hunter, No. 716 Filbert Street, [1876]). Also issued as Thompson Westcott's Centennial Portfolio. Thomas Hunter published several variant views, including folio-size prints commissioned in 1874 by the Centennial Board of Finance, of the Centennial Buildings after the official plans of the structures.
Originally part of a McAllister scrapbook of Centennial and Columbian Exposition views.
