Description
Exterior view of the orphanage and grounds from the Delaware River. Shows boys, girls, and nuns lining up to enter the building. A steamboat, a scull, and a small sailboat appear on the river. Founded by the German Roman Catholic School Society of Philadelphia in 1856 in response to the large influx of German immigrants to the city. Ground for the building was broken the same year.
