Description Shows a back view of the Wistar and Cadwalader mansions where a garden of Wistaria grows.
Notes This rear view of the locally noted Wistar and Cadwalader mansions, at 238 and 240 South Fourth Street, is of interest, especially, as it portrays the original creeping vine, shown, at the left, which was presented, early in the last century, to Dr. Caspar Wistar, by his guest, the French naturalist Michaux, who named it the Wistaria in honor of his host and friend. This is the parent vine of its species of all those now so plentiful in America.
