Charles F. Bourquin, born about 1805 in Canton Bien, Switzerland, traveled to the United States with his younger brother,
lithographer Frederick Bourquin in 1817. During the 1830s, he resided in New York where he was naturalized and married before
relocating to Philadelphia about 1843. From 1843 to 1851, he resided at 194 (i.e., 600 block) Pine Street as he worked at
the studio of P. S. Duval, where he remained employed until ca. 1857. Between 1855 and 1869 he resided at 804 Weccacoe (until
1864) and 2030 Christian Street (until 1869) and entered the employment of his brother F. Bourquin & Company, later Frederick
Bourquin around 1857. Bourquin continued under the employment of his brother until his death on June 2, 1869 from drowning.
