William S. Kessler, born in 1846 in the Northern Liberties, Philadelphia,was a partner in the lithographic establishment Breuker
& Kessler. In the early 1870s, Kessler partnered with his brother, Charles R. Kessler in Kessler & Brother, hamemakers, before
operating the lithographic firm of Breuker & Kessler with brother J. Millard Kessler.

Entering the printing trade after his older brother Harry C. Kessler (original partner in Breuker & Kessler) relocated to
Montana in the mid 1870s, William served as clerk and bookkeeper in 1878 and 1879 before working as a lithographer with the
firm in the 1880s and 1890s.
