Description
Waist-length portrait of Philadelphia merchant, Gilbert Pryor, facing slightly to the right. He wears a jacket, high-collared shirt, and wide necktie. At the time of this portrait, Pryor worked on North Front Street. He had lived in Philadelphia for over twenty years pursuing work as varied as tailor, clerk, and accountant. Pryor does not appear in Philadelphia city directories after 1855.

Cased photographs retrospective conversion project.
Pad: Faded red velvet; Urn of leaves in center. scroll work all around. Embossed: Root, 140 Chestnut St., Philada.
Mat: Oval.
Case: Leather. Spray of flowers with one rose in center within a double elliptical border. Geometric design on verso. Accompanied by manuscript note: Gilbert C. Pryor about 1856.
