Description |
Shows the General William Jenkins Worth obelisk monument designed by James Goodwin Batterson and situated in 1857 in the northern
end of Madison Square known as General Worth Square in New York City. Also shows adjacent commercial buildings. Worth served
in the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and the Seminole Wars before he died of cholera in 1849. Removed from Green-wood
Cemetery and interred in a tomb under the monument.
