Description
Exterior view looking southwest at the cemetery's Gothic gatehouse, chapel and steeple on the west side of North Broad Street at Berks Street. Includes two pedestrians standing on the sidewalk in front of the cemetery's entrance, and a milkman's coach parked in the street in the left foreground. Designed by Philadelphia artist and engraver John Sartain, the building also served as an office and superitendent's house before it was demolished to open Berks Street between Broad and Sixteenth Streets in 1904. Cemetery was established in 1838 by Dr. John Elkinton.
