Description
View looking east from the forebay at the Fairmount Water Works showing the decorative distribution arch on Reservoir Hill. The arch, built in 1860, functioned as a standpipe and observatory tower. Also shows a man standing on the promenade near the forebay in the foreground and inclined walkways to Reservoir Hill in the background. The waterworks, originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff, were altered and expanded until 1872.
