Description
Rooftop view showing the main campus of the college constructed 1833-1847 in the Greek Revival Style after the designs of Philadelphia architect Thomas Ustick Walter at 1201-1211 West College Avenue. Trees surround the buildings and line the walkways. Girard College was established through a bequest from Stephen Girard, a Philadelphia financier and philanthropist, for the creation of a school for "poor white orphans."
