The bridge, the first suspension bridge in the United States, was built from 1841-1842 after the designs of engineer Charles Ellet, Jr. It was removed in 1874. View also shows the old engine house at the Fairmount Water Works, factory buildings lining the west bank of the river, and cityscape.
