American flags and banners adorn the rear of Independence Hall. Several military personnel, flags, and a banner advertising King & Baird, book & job printers, are visible in the foreground. Veterans from over one-hundred regiments and the orphan children of soldiers and sailors killed during the Civil War attended the ceremony officiated by Mayor General George G. Meade and Governor Andrew G. Curtin.
