Description
Advertisement depicting the four-story shop containing signage advertising wines & liquors. The doors, windows, and cellar are open for business. Inside the shop, wine casks, crates, jugs, and bottles line the floors and a laborer raises a cask with a pulley. Outside, a white man laborer loads casks onto a horse-drawn cart. In the right, an African American man peddler with a basket and ringing a bell passes by. Partial views of the adjacent stores, possibly an apothecary and bolting cloth business, are visible. Hibler, operated the wine business at the location from 1840 until 1844, where afterward he operated a grocery.

Rease, a prominent mid-19th century Philadelphia trade card lithographer known to highlight details of human interest in his advertisements, partnered with Francis H. Schell in the 1850s and eventually operated his own press until 1872.
