Description |
Constructed 1818-24 as the U.S. Bank (i.e. Second Bank of the United States) based on the designs of Philadelphia architect
William Strickland. Served as custom house 1844-1935. Street scene in front depicts white men, women, and children pedestrians.
In the street, there is a carriage containing a white man and woman as passengers driven by an African American coachman,
a white man on horseback, and a dog.
