In the foreground, a man in checkered coat, striped bicycle pants, and a "Deerstalker" cap rides a "High Wheeler" in front of an arch of the New York Connecting Railway Bridge (built 1866-1867) spanning the Schuylkill River. Behind him, two other bicyclists follow and pass a startled horse pulling a buggy being approached by a park guard from across the road. A locomotive travels over the bridge. In the background, the Promontory Rock Tunnel (bored in 1871), the Girard Avenue Bridge (built 1872-1874), and the Centennial Exhibition observation tower, "Iron Tower," on George's Hill in West Fairmount Park are visible. - Sheet music cover containing an exterior view, during the evening, of the temporary main building of the exhibition held under the auspices of the Franklin Institute (September 2 to October 11, 1884) at the 3200 block of Lancaster Avenue. Also shows the adjacent old Pennsylvania Railroad Station used as a display annex. A covered overpass connects the buildings. Light shines through the several windows of the main building adorned with Gothic towers. Visitors walk the grounds of both buildings and horse-drawn buggies and an omnibus travel in the street. - Series of tradecards advertising the lithographic firm established as Craig, Butt & Finley in 1869 and renamed Craig, Finley & Co. in 1872. Seven of the tradecards depict quaint scenes of children at play and work in addition to one containing a montage of vignette views of buildings at the Centennial Exhibition of 1876. Scenes include a boy presenting flowers to a girl, children witnessing breaking and broken wares, children chasing a rabbit, a shepherd boy with a lamb, and girls performing the wash. All the boys are attired in knickers and most wear hats. Most of the girls are attired in peasant-like dresses. - Advertisement showing the bustling industrial starch and farina works at the corner of Chestnut and Bridgewater Streets (ie. Chestnut and Thirtieth Streets) looking northeast toward the Schuylkill River. Laborers direct horse-drawn drays and wagons to and from factory buildings and railroad cars. Scene includes a man on horseback riding toward the factory buildings, a laborer standing in the foreground near the tracks, smoke rising from several chimneys in the complex, the Market Street Bridge crossing the Schuylkill River in the distance, and the outline of Philadelphia Gas Works gasholders immediately east of the bridge., Published in Edwin T. - Advertisement for the Philadelphia perfumer at 120, i.e., 324 Chestnut Street. Shows two well-dressed women in a boudoir that is decorated with carpet, drapes, and a candlelabra. One woman combs her long, lush, flowing hair with her back to a nightstand with a mirror as she looks at the second woman with short wispy hair. Perfume bottles rest on the night stand. Also contains an ornamental border including columns and advertising text. Text promotes the stopping of "decay in the middle of decline, to preserve what is beautiful" through use of Haul's "Hair Restorative" that "stops the falling off of Hair, promotes the growth of it, vivifies the roots and the skin and gives a new vigor to hair." - Membership certificate for the German-American choral society founded in 1852. Includes an ornamental border and vignettes. Vignettes depict a Grecian-attired female with harp; an American eagle grasping a harp and a banner marked with the establishment date of the society; the female allegorical figure of music holding a harp, laurel wreath, and attended by a cherub displaying a sheet of music on a pillow; and a view of the society's hall at the N.W. corner of Sixth and Vine streets.
