- News print showing the farm at Jones Lane in South Philadelphia of the Philadelphia family murdered by their farmhand Anton Probst on April 7, 1866. The victims included Christopher Dearing, aged 38 years; his wife, Julia Dearing, aged 45 years; their son, John Dearing, aged 8 years; their son, Thomas Dearing, aged 6 years; their daughter, Anna Dearing, aged 4 years; their daughter, Emily Dearing, aged 2 years; family friend Elizabeth Dolan, aged 25 years; and fieldhand Cornelius Cary, aged 17 years. Depicts (left to right) "1. The Haystack" where the headless body of the first murdered, field hand Cary, was hidden; "2. The Dwelling" Probst ransacked for money and in which he shaved, changed, napped, and ate after the murder; "3. The Stable" where Probst fed the animals before his departure; and "4. The Barn" where the family was lured one by one, killed, and discovered by neighbors a few days later. Individuals walk the property, including spectators and police, and a cow stands across from two policemen in a field tilled for planting in the foreground. Also shows barren trees, carts, wagons, and other farm equipment. Probst, a German immigrant and swindler, was a disgruntled former farmhand of the Dearings who murdered the family by hammer and ax for revenge and money. - Advertisement showing the Schweitzer and Grim brewery complex on the 1100 block of Columbia (i.e., Cecil B. Moore) Avenue. Complex includes a three and half–story red brick office building and shop with two adjacent entrances. A man enters one of the entrances, and at the other, two men shake hands while a couple approaches the walled entryway to an addition attached to the rear of the office. The addition also contains a roofed porch area. To the left, a two-horse team is visible at the opening of a passage in the wall that spreads between the brew house (left) and addition (right). - An accurate sketch from nature, of the exterior and interior of the house no. 39, Nth. Fourth St. Philadelphia, where the atrocious murder of Mrs. Rademacher was committed on the night of the 23d, March 1848, her wounds, and exact position when discovered

- Sensational print containing two views of the murder scene of Catherine Rademacher, sister-in-law of lithographer Augustus Kollner. Her husband, Charles L. Rademacher kept a bookstore and medicinal shop on the first floor of the Fourth Street address, and his residence with the Kollner family on the second and third floors. On March 23, 1848, the Rademachers were awakened by an intruder searching their bedroom who beat Rademacher unconscious and slain his wife. A broken knife, resembling a shoemaker's tool, but not the only instrument used in the slaying, was found at the scene. A recently released inmate from Eastern State Penintentiary and German shoemaker, Charles Langfeldt was convicted, and executed on October 20, 1848 for the crime despite his declaration of innocence. Upper view shows the murderer, dressed in black, including a top hat, on the rear shed roof of the red brick residence and store. He approaches an upper floor window with a shutter half open. The lower windows of the building are shuttered and a partial view of a leafless vine climbing an arbor (neighbor's yard) is visible in the left of the image. Lower view shows the bedroom and scene of the crime. The murdered woman, attired in a night dress, lies on the floor, face up, with blood surrounding her upper body. The victim has cut marks on her face, chest, and arm., Her husband lies face down on the bed. His head is positioned near the foot of the mattress. Blood stains his shoulder and the pillows at the head of the bed. Blood splatter is also visible on the wall above and the knob of a door near a dresser in the left corner of the room. Other furniture includes a chair on one side and a night table with wash bowl and pitcher on the other side of the bed. - Advertisement using trompe l'oeil to depict a genre scene set in a cobbler shop as an illustrated poster with a curling edge. Shows a mother with her two sons (attired in dresses) patronizing the shop. The cobbler, at his work table, holds up a 'Solar Tip" shoe to the child showing his toe-worn shoe and offers the advice "Buy the Genuine Solar Tip. Then your shoes won't need mending." The mother holds the hands of the boy who has lifted his foot, his toe poking from the worn shoe, at which a cat, with a ribbon collar, swats his paw. The cat stands by the cobbler's feet and near boots soaking in a bucket. Tools are mounted on the side of the cobbler's table, and above his workspace a Solar Tip shoe advertisement hangs next to a shelve of personal wares and a row of shoe forms. - Advertisement showing a parade float, surrounded by sharply-dressed children, processing down the block with the "T.M. Harris & Co". multi-storied building at 821 Cherry. The float carries a large-model size Standard Tip shoe on which a toddler is seated and holding a Harris shoe. The children accompanying the vehicle play musical instruments, hold banners, and carry ribbons marked "Stand Tip." Two older girls flank and clasp one hand of the other over the float as three woman, including one attired as a nurse who holds a banner, follow the procession. The banners are illustrated with the company trademarks that advertise "Warranted Double Toe" and "Highest Grade." - Advertisement showing a bird’s eye view of the factory complex of several buildings and courtyards originally built 1855 between 18th, Fitzwater, 17th, and Catherine streets. Complex includes the L-shaped building at the corner of Fitzwater and Seventeeth streets that displays the sign “Rosengarten & Sons. Established 1822” near the entrance. The building contained the office, packing rooms, and manufacturing rooms for the firm. Several individuals walk on the sidewalk and horse-drawn carts and wagons travel near the street corner. On the Fitzwater block in front of the complex, which also includes a storage shed, stable, and warehouse for the factory, other wagons and carts are parked. Next to the warehouse, a horse-drawn cart enters a passageway to the complex in which laborers and horse-drawn carts are visible at work. Several of the factory buildings contain smokestacks. - Advertisement showing the large industrial complex, including warehouses, storage sheds, and a reservoir originally established in 1848 by Powers & Weightman. Several of the buildings contain working smokestacks. A horse-drawn wagon departs from the main entranceway and a number of others are visible within the complex. Train tracks run within and along the periphery of the plant. A locomotive with train cars, horse–drawn freight cars, and free standing freight cars are visible on the tracks. Fenced pasture land is visible in the background. Also contains two titled insets in the lower corners. "Tartaric and Citric Acid Department, Falls of Schuylkill" includes horse-drawn wagons arriving and crossing a small bridge in the foreground. "Laboratory for Fine Chemicals, Ninth and Parrish Streets" includes trains traveling in the foreground. Includes the "Pale Ale Brewery Counting House" (left) and adjoining and adjacent processing buildings. In the foreground, within the doorway of the red brick counting house, a clerk interacts with a drayman. The brewery employee hands the driver a small piece of paper as the deliveryman also holds the reigns of his horse harnessed to a dray loaded with beer barrels. The horse wears blinders. - View showing the elegant four-story hotel completed in 1826 after the designs of Thomas U. Walter in Brandywine Springs, Delaware. Elegantly attired guests crowd the first floor porch, are visible in some upper floor windows, and walk and lounge on the grounds. A man on horseback, and a horse-drawn carriage arrive at the hotel near two dogs chasing each other in the driveway. The hotel served as a summer retreat for the well-to-do of the region. (80-82, i.e., 238-240); the Jayne Building (built 1849-1850) tenanted by Wesendock & Co. importers of silks & cloths, Dr. D. Jayne & Son, patent medicine, and Ellwood Shannon, tea dealer (84-86, i.e., 242-244); Oberteuffer & Freytag, importers, and Samuel Robinson, importers of Irish linens (88, i.e., 246); N. Thouron & Sons, importers of French goods, and Harden’s [sic] Express, probably A. Howard & Co. express (92, i.e., 248); and the U.S. Life Insurance Annuity & Trust Saving Fund building tenanted by Draper, Welsh & Co. Bank Note Engraving (94, i.e., 250). Includes heavy street and pedestrian traffic. Horse-drawn carriages, wagons, an omnibus, and drays travel in the street in addition to a dray situated to be loaded in front of the Jayne Building. Clusters of pedestrians walk near the Jayne and the Saving Fund buildings. In the foreground, on the opposite side of the street, families stroll, converse, and are greeted by other individuals near men, including laborers, talking near a pile of crates and a loaded dray. - Street scene showing the south side of Chestnut Street between 4th and 5th Streets depicting two bank buildings designed by Philadelphia architect William Strickland: the Philadelphia Bank building (built 1836) and the custom house (formerly the Second Bank of the U.S., built 1818-24). Philadelphia Bank building (400-408 Chestnut, after renumbering) houses and includes signage for the Western Bank and Girard Life & Trust Company, as well as H.S. & C. Ogden, tailors; Kelly & Bright, stationers; Edward Borheck, optician; Martin Leans, engraver; Wilcox & Delleker, custom house brokers; and Wm. H. Patton, dealer in decorative wall papers.
