Anna Mitchel McAllister, daughter of John McAllister Jr., was a practising physician, having graduated from Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1873. Title: Menu collection, 1837-1899
Description: The collection consists one hundred twenty-six menus primarily from the second half of the 19th century, from Philadelphia. Includes menus from celebrations and anniversaries as well as standard bills of fare. Among the restaurants included are Parkinson's, the Continental Hotel, Merchant's Hotel, and Ebbitt House. Some menus are from Civil War commemorations. Outside of the Philadelphia area, there are menus from New York, Chicago, Niagara Falls, and Syracuse, as well as several menus from the Holland-America liner S.S. Ryndam., The collection was started with menus from the John A. McAllister collection and additional menus have accrued over the years. Most significantly, in 1984, Charles E. Rosenberg donated eleven menus from the anniversary dinners of the Shakespeare Society, dating from 1855 to 1874. The collection is open to new additions.

Description: Busy view showing the early 1780s former residence of miniature painter and steamboat engineer Robert Fulton when tenanted by a lager beer saloon. Depicts two saloon workers moving barrels across from two men conversing near the entryway of the two-story, wooden building with display window and awning. One worker emerges with a barrel from the cellar in front of the window while the other rolls one of four barrels in his direction and away from a tilted telegraph pole. The pole extends up through the awning and leans into the roof of the adjoining building in the left. “Restaurant” is written on the display window and "Lager Beer Saloon" is written on the awning. A fire insurance marker and signage reading “121 Fulton House” and “ale” also adorn the building. Also shows partial views of adjacent brick buildings, and in the left, a woman attired in a hat, dress, and apron walking on the sidewalk and carrying a ceramic carafe. Building in right, likely a grocery store, is adorned with an awning frame on which a small round sign reading “L” hangs. Building is also adorned with signage that is partially visible and reads "Groc" and "Joh." Fulton lived and worked on South Second Street in the early 1780s. While in Philadelphia, he worked as an apprentice and miniature painter as well as began his experiments with the mechanics of steam power. In 1786 he relocated to Front Street. Title: Arthur Power Dudden collection of railroad, steamboat, and omnibus passes, 1865-1876
Description: The collection consists of forty-two transportation passes, one telegraph pass, two membership cards, a business card, and two calling cards (Edward Hoopes, Philadelphia; and J. Knight). The passes were all issued to members of the Charles J. Clarke family and date from 1865 to 1876. Clarke was the principal of Clarke and Company, an agency that facilitated transfer of freight between lines. He is probably most remembered for being a founding member of the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, owners of the dam that failed in 1889, causing the Johnstown Flood., Collected by Arthur Power Dudden, professor of history and American studies at Bryn Mawr College. Dudden was born on Oct. 26, 1921. He graduated with a B.A. from Wayne State University in 1942, then served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he attended the University of Michigan, obtaining a Ph.D. in history in 1950. He joined the faculty of Bryn Mawr College that same year, and became a full professor in 1965. He retired from Bryn Mawr in 1992. Dudden authored 9 books, and was actively involved in several professional associations. He died on Oct. 14, 2009.

Includes rhymed couplets describing each age below the image corresponding to animal vignettes adorning the pedestal styled as up and down steps.
