- Front and back covers of the seed trade catalogue for the Henry A. Dreer firm. Front cover shows a property containing a mansion house (with an attached greenhouse), tree orchard, garden patch, and two outbuildings, including one with a windmill. In the foreground, a man on horseback passes on a road through the estate. Back cover shows a display of farm produce including, celery, pumpkin, corn, potatoes, watermelon, beets, lettuce, carrots, and asparagus in the foreground of a farming scene. Decorative trims line the top and bottom edges. The firm was incorporated 1892 under his son, William F. - Description
- Sheet music cover containing an interior view of the crowded concert hall and theater operated by Henry Miller beginning circa 1854. Several men and women sit at, and converse and walk among the many tables of the seating area as a number of waiters serve the patrons. A music ensemble plays on a raised platform with guard rails in the left of the image and several people line a small stage in the center rear of the hall where a small performance appears to be happening. To the right of the performance, the stairwell to the upper balcony, lined with people, is visible. Greenery and vinery decorate the hall that includes a glass ceiling and windows, some open, across and adjacent to the balcony. - View showing the estate of the Philadelphia newspaper proprietor, Andrew McMakin, that was located northwest of Laurel Hill on the Ridge Turnpike at East Falls. Trees partially obscure the main residence that is flanked by outbuildings that were used as an ice-house, bath-house and hot-house. A fountain adorns the lawn on which two deer graze. In the foreground, two men travel on horseback and a third walks with a cane. They pass on the dirt road in front of the stone wall surrounding the property. The estate was originally built for Governor Thomas Mifflin in the 18th century and was later acquired by Fairmount Park. The residence was removed., Part of title from label pasted on recto., pdcc00030, Accompanied by clipping “Extract of a Letter from one of the editors of New York Mirror, dated: Philadelphia, September 1845." - Description
- Honorary membership certificate containing firefighting vignettes, scenes, and pictorial elements. Shows the company horse-drawn steam engine, manned by two volunteers, racing down a street; several firefighters drawing the hose carriage while a man runs in the street beside them; and an exterior view of the station house at Ridge Avenue above Wood Street in Spring Garden. The company engine is parked in front. Also contains, at the top of the certificate, a bust portrait of the “Chief Engineer D.M.L” attired in his fire fighter’s hat and coat. Pictorial elements depict bundles of fire fighting equipment, including hats, horns, ladders, and a rope designed as side borders; eagles holding the American flag in their beaks, and swans gliding on water. Fairmount Company, organized in 1823 and incorporated in 1850, was established after the dissolution of the Whale Fire Company.
