Title: Location of the Halls-Mills murders crime scene, Somerville, New Jersey
Description: Aerial views of the site of the murders of Eleanor Reinhardt Mills, the wife of a New Brunswick janitor, and Edward Wheeler Hall, a New Brunswick Episcopal priest, known as the Halls-Mills murders. The bodies were found at this site in Somerville near New Brunswick, New Jersey on September 16, 1922. The trial began in Somerville in November, 1926, and lasted 30 days. Allaire (1785-1858) founded the Allaire Iron Works Company (later Howell Iron Works) in 1815. Allaire, New Jersey became a factory town for the company that built engines for steamboats circa 1824. The row homes for workers were completed in 1833, the blast furnace was made in 1831, and the Episcopalian church was built 1832-1836. Financial difficulties and discovery of iron ore deposits in Pennsylvania closed the Company in 1850. Title: [Robert Morgan of New Haven, washed ashore after a storm in Atlantic City, N.J.]
Description: Depicts people walking along the beach near a three-masted sailing ship, identified as the "Robert Morgan" from New Haven, Connecticut. The ship came ashore at Atlantic City on January 9th, 1884, during the Great Storm, and passed within a few inches of the immense frame work of Applegate's Ocean Pavilion, making a narrow escape from a total wreck and now lies high and dry uninjured on the beach. In 1883 J.R. Applegate purchased 100 feet of beach property in Atlantic City at the foot of Tennessee Avenue, next to his "picture galleries." He built a two tier pier extending 625 feet beyond the boardwalk with an amusement pavillion at the outer end.
