Asbury Park was developed in 1871 as a residential resort by James A. Bradley (1830-1921), a New York brush manufacturer. The town was named for Francis Asbury (1745-1816), the first American bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It was once home to the famous indoor amusement park Palace Amusements, the site of the original Tillie mural depicting two grinning faces., Photographer remarks: Very poor.
