- Advertisement showing the large industrial complex, including warehouses, storage sheds, and a reservoir originally established in 1848 by Powers & Weightman. Several of the buildings contain working smokestacks. A horse-drawn wagon departs from the main entranceway and a number of others are visible within the complex. Train tracks run within and along the periphery of the plant. A locomotive with train cars, horse–drawn freight cars, and free standing freight cars are visible on the tracks. Fenced pasture land is visible in the background. Also contains two titled insets in the lower corners. "Tartaric and Citric Acid Department, Falls of Schuylkill" includes horse-drawn wagons arriving and crossing a small bridge in the foreground. "Laboratory for Fine Chemicals, Ninth and Parrish Streets" includes trains traveling in the foreground. In 1847, Powers & Weightman succeeded Farr & Kunzi (established in 1818), and became internationally renown for their manufacture of medicinal and other fine chemicals. The company was the first to introduce quinine to the United States. Trees partially obscure the main residence that is flanked by outbuildings that were used as an ice-house, bath-house and hot-house. A fountain adorns the lawn on which two deer graze. In the foreground, two men travel on horseback and a third walks with a cane. They pass on the dirt road in front of the stone wall surrounding the property. The estate was originally built for Governor Thomas Mifflin in the 18th century and was later acquired by Fairmount Park. - Description
- Shows a line of civilians near a large flagpole watching the regiment drill in front of their tents at the camp near East Falls, Philadelphia. Civilians include men and women on horseback, women in a carriage, a family with their pet dog, and a child playing with a hoop. Also shows a military band leading the troops, officers on horseback, and other civilians walking the tree-lined circumference of the camp called Camp Union. Also contains the names of the "Committee of the Corn Exchange Regiment" printed below the image. The Exchange raised an infantry of 1000 men during the summer of 1862 through the enticement of a liberal bounty., Printed below the title: To the President and members of the Corn Exchange and the officers and men of the Regiment this Plate is respectfully dedicated by the Artists., Philadelphia on Stone, POS 795, Wainwright retrospective conversion project, edited., Historical Society of Pennsylvania: Bc54 P544., Originally part of a McAllister scrapbook of Civil War Views, Places and Events.
