Description: View looking northeast from below the Wire Bridge of Fairmount, the first suspension bridge in the United States, built over the Schuylkill River from 1841-1842 after the designs of engineer Charles Ellet, Jr. Show pedestrians, men on horseback, wagons and carriages approaching, crossing, and departing the bridge near the Fairmount Waterworks. Waterworks include the engine house, mill house, and pavilions on the mound dam and Reservoir Hill. Also shows people fishing on the river, a man carrying a fishing pole over a foot bridge to the canal lock, men seated on the incline to the bridge, and a hotel building. Description: View looking south from the east bank of the Schuylkill River showing the Fairmount Water Works. Depicts the old engine house; old mill house; new mill house (completed 1862); and the observatory tower arch (built 1860), stand pipe (built 1852), and pavilion on Reservoir Hill. In the foreground, trees and bushes line the river bank and small boats sail near the Schuylkill Canal lock in which a barge travels. Also shows the Wire Suspension Bridge at Fairmount in the far right background. The waterworks were originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Frederick Graff., Philadelphia on Stone, POS 237, Historical Society of Pennsylvania: Bc 88 C 936, Palmer, was one of a few women lithographic artists, who also developed innovative coloring techniques as well as made improvements to the lithographic crayons used by the firm Currier & Ives. Palmer worked for Currier, and later the firm, from 1851 to 1876.

Includes a mule driver in front of a hotel, possibly the Upper Ferry Tavern, near the bridge; park visitors; vessels on the Schuylkill River; rock formations; trees; and a cascading brook. Description: Uncut sheet of landscape views showing "Below Girard Bridge, East"; "East of Columbia Bridge"; "Above Columbia Bridge"; "Ravine near Reservoir East"; "At South Laurel Hill"; "Belmont Prospect (1848)"; "East of Girard Bridge (1857)";"West of Wire Bridge (1842)"and "Above Girard Bridge East." Includes a man on horseback approaching the residence, on the plateau, at Belmont, the former estate of Judge Richard Peters; a distant view of the Columbia Bridge (completed 1834) across the Schuylkill River; a horse-drawn wagon and man on horseback crossing the Old Girard Avenue Bridge; a mule driver in front of a hotel, possibly the Upper Ferry Tavern, near the Wire Bridge; park visitors, including children; vessels on the Schuylkill River; cliffs; a cascading brook; rock formations; and trees. Belmont was the country seat of Peters until his death in 1828. The old Girard Avenue Bridge was built in 1855 and razed in 1871.
