Founders Hall, built in 1833, was the first building of the Haverford School, later College. It served as the only living and learning quarters of the College until 1877 when Barclay Hall was built. Thomas graduated from Haverford College in 1865 and returned as an instructor in 1878. After getting his masters in history in 1882, he continued as a professor of rhetoric and history until 1909. One is dressed as a woman with a long dresses and purse and the other wears a three-piece suit, top hat, and false beard. They stand in front of a stone wall covered with vines and a suitcase sits on the ground near the man's feet. The Everett Society was founded by students in 1858. Their activities included declamations, orations, debates and essay writing.
