View showing several park visitors surrounding the monument sculpted by Randolph Rogers that was erected in 1871 at East River (i.e, Kelly) and Lemon Hill drives. Visitors view the monument, converse, greet one another, read newspapers, sit on benches, and ride in carriages. Monument shows Abraham Lincoln, seated, with a quill in his hand after just signing the Emancipation Proclamation. The statue rests upon a pedestal adorned with sculpted garland, bronze eagles, and the City of Philadelphia’s Coat of Arms. The granite base is adorned with four panels inscribed with a dedication to and quotes from Lincoln of which two are visible. The monument was commissioned by the Lincoln Monument Association, one of the first such associations formed in the country, to raise funds for a city monument in memory of Lincoln. Eight-page foldout advertisement for George Gill Green's "August Flower" and "Boschee's German Syrup" containing advertising text pages and five views of Fairmount Park including the Fairmount Water Works and Resevoir, originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff. Also shows horse-drawn carriages pulling men and women racing north on East River Drive under the New York Connecting Railway Bridge, built 1866-67 after designs by Joseph A. Wilson for the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Promontory Rock Tunnel, bored in 1871, is visible in the background. Other images include people leisurely rowing on a creek under the bridge to Lansdown Island; park visitors standing on a pathway that overlooks the Schuylkill River from the Fairmount Water Works; and men and women strolling, sitting, and traveling in horse-drawn carriages along Wissahickon Drive. Paragraphs of advertising text promote George Gill Green's "August Flower" as a "natural cathartic" that "corrects the acidity of the stomach," and "it is established fact in every town and village on this continent, that [Boschee's] German Syrup is the only remedy that has given satisfaction in severe cases of Lung Disease." Sheet music cover containing a genre scene, circa the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, showing bicyclists on East River Drive, i.e. Kelly Drive in East Fairmount Park. In the foreground, a man in checkered coat, striped bicycle pants, and a "Deerstalker" cap rides a "High Wheeler" in front of an arch of the New York Connecting Railway Bridge (built 1866-1867) spanning the Schuylkill River. Behind him, two other bicyclists follow and pass a startled horse pulling a buggy being approached by a park guard from across the road. A locomotive travels over the bridge. In the background, the Promontory Rock Tunnel (bored in 1871), the Girard Avenue Bridge (built 1872-1874), and the Centennial Exhibition observation tower, "Iron Tower," on George's Hill in West Fairmount Park are visible. Scullers row near a steamboat under the distantly-seen bridge on which a locomotive crosses. Also shows horse-drawn carriages traveling on the drive and on the Girard Avenue Bridge.
