At a meeting of Company C., 2nd Regiment Rifles, held at their armory, 38th and Bridge Sts., on Thursday evening, the following preamble and resolutions were unanimously adopted: Whereas, the present crisis makes it necessary that every citizen should be prepared to aid the government and protect his own home from the encroachment of an enemy who is making rapid advances towards accomplishing his wicked purposes, therefore Resolved, that Captain Corrie be requested to issue an immediate call, commanding each enrolled member of our corps to meet on Saturday evening, Sept. 6th, at the armory, for drill. Resolved, that each and every citizen be requested, in pursuance of the suggestion of Gov. Curtin, to unite with us in learning the drill, and thus prepare themselves for such efficient duty as the exigency of the present state of affairs seems to require. Resolved, that the citizens be invited to attend at a general mass meeting to be held on Monday evening, Sept. 8th, at the lot in front of the armory. Title: The Mammoth cattle! Gen. G.B. McClellan and Garibaldi At the Western Exchange Hotel Yard, Fifteenth and Market Street, Philadelphia. The public are invited to call and examine the most extraordinary pair of cattle ever produced in this or any other conntry [sic]. Gen. McClellan took the first prize at four successive state fairs in four states, viz: Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky, and is conceded to be the neatest and finest animal every before looked upon. The cattle will remain on exhibition during the present month. They will be slaughtered on or about the 1st of March, and their meat will be sold by A.R. The draft was ordered for the 29th of September, and would certainly have taken place but for the influence of our Representative in Congress, Hon. Charles O'Neill, and of the committee of the wards, who visited the president of the United States and the provost marshal general, and succeeded in obtaining a postponement of the draft! upon the pledge of the committee, that the First and Twenty-sixth Wards, would fill their quota, if a little more time were given. This time has been granted; and it now rests with the citizens of these wards to fulfil the pledge by clearing themselves of the draft! Ten dollars from every man liable to draft, will clear us! Who would not rather pay ten dollars than be drafted? Let every citizen attend the ward meetings
