- Print trimmed and lacking caption., Poulson's inscription on recto: Mar. 1849; Market Street., Advertisement depicting the three-and-a-half-story manufactory operated by John M. Melloy and Robert Ford at 291 Market Street, later renumbered 723, promoting the "lowest rates", "quick sales & small profits," and "metallic roofing." The building heavily adorned with signage and product advertisements including a large scale model of a coffee pot contains prominent displays of tinware in the shop window, on the store shelves, and near the open cellar door. Near the front of the shop, a couple strolls, two laborers lift a crate onto a horse-drawn sulky, and a female customer enters the store. An African American peddler with tray and bell passes a line of crates on the sidewalk. Tinsmiths work near the third floor windows. Melloy & Ford, a partnership established in 1849, was in business until 1861 when Melloy entered partnership with Isaac Smith at the same address.

The scene is depicted within a lithographed tromp l'oeil wood frame containing an inset of an exterior view of Peck's Works at Dock Street. Delivery wagons and drays traverse the business-lined streets, including one for Peck's driven by an African American man. Pedestrians walk the sidewalks and cross the intersection, and a boy rolls a hoop passed a female peddler sewing by her foodstand. Visible in the background are the busy Walnut Street Ferry wharf and Smith and Windmill Islands in the Delaware River. Louis L. Peck's varnish business operated from around 1848 until 1855.

- Kennedy and Lucas, operated by David Kennedy and William B. Lucas, printed the city's first commercial lithographs, a series of church subjects drawn by W.L. Breton, probably including "Mother Bethel.", Exterior view of the rough cast second edifice of the African American church at 125 South 6th Street. Pedestrians and church attendees, predominately women, stroll the sidewalk and enter the house of worship adorned with a simple stone tablet inscribed, "Bethel Church." Known as "Mother Bethel," the church was formed from black congregants discriminated against by the Methodist Episcopal Church. The 1805 building, the site of the first convention of the Unified African Methodist Episcopal Church, stood until 1841 when a third building was erected on the site.

Demolished in 1848 or 1849.

- Manuscript note on verso: No. 15 So. Fourth Street., Print trimmed and lacking caption., Poulson inscription on recto: 1831, no. 15 So. Fourth Street., Advertisement depicting the three-and-a-half story hotel at 15 South Fourth Street operated, as indicated by a placard above the door, by Horatio Wade. Wade remained proprietor from 1831 until 1833. Elegantly dressed guests enter the building, converse on the sidewalk, and rest and read inside near the first floor windows. On the sidewalk, well-dressed pedestrians stroll and an African American hotel porter pushes a wheelbarrow of luggage. The Indian Queen Hotel established in 1771, the building altered several times until razed in 1851, was until the mid 19th century incorrectly identified as the site of Thomas Jefferson's writing of the Declaration of Independence.

Also shows surrounding dwellings north and south of Spruce Street. Philadelphia High School for Young Ladies was a private school established circa 1830 that provided its students with an education based on religious principles, including courses in art, languages, and sciences.

- Artist and publication information supplied by Wainwright., Exterior view of Pennsylvania Hall engulfed in flames. A large crowd looks on. Fire fighters spray water on an adjoining building. Pennsylvania Hall was constructed 1837-1838 at Sixth and Haines Streets in Philadelphia as a meeting place for local abolitionist groups. Dedication ceremonies began on May 14, 1838 and continued over several days in a climate of growing hostility. On the night of May 17, 1838 a mob stormed the Hall and set it on fire. Fire companies refused to fight the blaze, and the building was completely destroyed. Bowen issued this print commemorating the event within a few days of the fire., Gift of Mrs. S. Marguerite Brenner.

Several pedestrians stroll the sidewalks. A carriage and horse-drawn cart pass by on the street. The hall, erected in 1838 as an arena for "free discussion", was set aflame by hostile mobs on May 17, 1838 after three days of interracial dedication ceremonies and services. The building ruins continued to stand until the Odd Fellows Society built a hall on the lot in 1846.

J.E. Schell continued the business as J.E. Schell & Company starting in 1857. On Tenth Street, patrons enter the four-story storefront and mantle room adorned with signage and statuary displayed on a second floor veranda. At the corner, a coach waits, the disembarked African American driver standing at the ready. - Exterior winter view of the hall as it looked on February 22, 1852, with adjoining fenced property, adorned with an American flag, and containing the district's police station and Mayor's office, on the busy, snow covered Third Street between Buttonwood and Green streets. Several warmly dressed white pedestrians, hall officials, and a policeman mill about and converse on the sidewalk; white children throw snowballs and play with a sled; horse-drawn sleighs pass by; white men shovel snow off the street and hall steps; and an African American man carrying a basket of celery and a dead goose stops in the street and looks behind him and toward the passing sled. A broadside inscribed, "Washington, 22nd Feb. 1852" adorns a nearby building. Prior to the city's consolidation with bordering townships in 1854, neighborhoods maintained and housed their own police stations, mayors, and other government officials in Commissioners Halls, including Northern Liberties.
