Architect Thomas Ustick Walter designed the building, which was built from 1832 to 1835 and demolished 1968. It is also known as Philadelphia County Prison., Photographer's manuscript note on verso: Moyamensing prison, sometimes called the "11" St Dock", the jug, the county hotel, etc. Reminds one of the mediaeval days of castles, barons, and sieges. Two men watch the carriage from near the road and two others are visible close to one of the battlement towers. The prison, which operated under a system of solitary confinement, was demolished 1968., Copyrighted by J.T.
